神明橋を探せ！―桜川を歩く―
上板橋にある城北公園に沿って鎮座する御嶽神社の境内には、お末社として天祖神社の小さな祠がまつられています。「なぜ、御嶽神社に天祖神社がまつられているのでしょう？」というご質問を頂きました。調べてみるると明治時代には、別の場所から御嶽神社の境内に遷されたお社であることがわかります。元の境内地を考えるヒントは「神明橋」という橋の名前とその橋の場所。なぜなら、明治6年まで天祖神社は「神明社」といわれていたからです。「神明橋」は現在暗渠となっている桜川（現・桜川緑道）にかかる橋でした。ところが、その橋の場所が定かではありません。 4月8日は御嶽神社境内の天祖神社の例祭でした。例祭にご参列いただいていた、まち博友の会の目黒会長さんが「いまも神明橋という名前が刻まれているものがありますよ。行ってみますか？」とさっそくご案内くださいました。かつての桜川は、今は緑あふれる心地よい散歩道になっています。この下には今も桜川（練馬区では田柄川）が流れているそうです。緑の中を歩いていくと練馬区との区界近くに「しんめいばし」という表示がありました！このほどなく近い場所に、
